Services Provided By The Practice

In addition to appointments with the doctor, the practice provides the following services and clinics for patients:

Practice Nurses

The practice employs four practice nurses who are trained to provide the following services to our patients: Wound/ulcer care dressing, injections, minor infections, blood tests and blood pressure checks, ear syringing, suture removal and general nursing advice. In addition the nurses can give advice on HRT, family planning, teenage health and have particular interest in asthma, diabetes, hypertension, CHD, weight monitoring, travel vaccinations, child immunisations and smoking cessation along with other general clinics that they run.

The nurses also carry out cervical smears and female patients will be contacted when they are due to be screened.

District Nurses

There is a district nurse team attached to the practice. They provide nursing care for those patients of all age groups in their own home, to those patients who are housebound and need long term care, wound/ulcer dressing, insulin injections and care of patients who may be terminally ill. The district nurses liaise with your doctor and other members of the health care team and social services to ensure the best possible care is provided. They can be contacted on 020 8714 2750, but your GP will have to reger you.

Health Visitors

There are health visitors attached to the practice and they give advice on preventative health. They have expertise in a wide range of healthcare fields, particularly those concerning expectant mothers and young children. They have a drop-in baby clinic at the practice on the first and third Wednesday afternoon of each month between 1.15 and 3.30pm. They can be contacted on 020 8714 2750.

Community Midwife - by appointment

The community midwife runs an antenatal clinic at the Byron Centre (020 8660 3915) and the midwife team at the Mayday Hospital (020 8401 3171) can be contacted for advice.

We run our antenatal clinic at the practice on Mondays between 1.30 - 4.00pm. Expectant mothers will be advised of when they need to attend to see the GP.

Dietician - by appointment

The practice has a dietician attached to the practice and is here every first and third Tuesday of each month to give advice. If the doctor feels you need to see the dietician you will be referred to reception to make an appointment.

What Is The Minor Illness Clinic?

This is a nurse-led clinic, which is run Monday to Friday. No appointment is necessary - you can walk into the practice between 8.00 - 10.00am or you can ring between 8.30 - 9.30am and you will be given an estimated time to attend.

The receptionist may ask you for a few details to ensure this appointment will be suitable for you. The nurse is able to prescribe certain medication and antibiotics if she feels that it is appropriate.

  • The nurse can also give you general health advice if that is all you require.

As part of the services we offer to our patients, we conduct the following clinics:

Antenatal

Monday 1.30 - 4.00pm (with Dr Harcourt)

Diabetic

Thursday 1.00 - 4.00pm (with Dr Cruickshank or the nurse)

Asthma

By appointment with the nurse.

Baby Clinic

Wednesday 1.00 - 4.00pm (with Dr Gallagher or the nurse)
On the first and third Wednesday of each month health visitors are also present and mothers can drop in to have their baby weighed and chat to the health visitor.

Teenage Health

By appointment with the nurse.

Flu Clinic

October - December
By appointment frin October each year; please ring the practice to make an appointment during that month. The practice offers eligible patients a free flu vaccination. Please check to see if you are eligible.

Travel Immunisation

Tuesday 3.30 - 6.30pm
If you require travel vaccinations please make your appointment six weeks prior to travel. A charge will be made for certain immunisations that are not covered by the NHS. (See Travel Clinic next.)

The Baby Clinic

The baby clinic is held every Wednesday between 1.00pm and 4.00pm. The clinic is run by the GP who will conduct 8-week checks and then the nurses will give first immunisations. The rest of the clinic is nurse-led and the nurses give other child immunisations as per the schedule below.

Cryotherapy Clinic

Every three weeks the practice holds a cryotherapy clinic (by appointment) where liquid nitrogen is used to freeze off minor growths such as warts etc. If the doctor feels that you need to attend this clinic, you will be asked to make an appointment at reception.

Ischaemic Heart Disease

By appointment
The practice holds clinics for those patients suffering from heart disease. Patients will be invited to attend or be referred by their doctor.

Hypertension Clinic

By appointment
The practice operates a hypertension clinic for patients with high blood pressure. You will be invited to attend or be referred by your doctor.

Smoking Cessation

The practice operates a group smoking cessation clinic which is run by the nurse. Please ask reception for detail on how to book your appointment.

Weight Management

If you have a weight problem, attendance at our informal group weight management session will provide an introduction to our weight management programme and help to support you to lose weight. After the group session you are monitored on a one-to-one basis by either the nurse or healthcare assistant. Please ask for details about the clinic at reception.

Wound Care

The nurses at the practice operate a wound clinic for patients needing dressings changed etc. The nurse will refer you to this clinic.

Non-NHS Services

Certain services such as private sick notes, insurance claim forms, passport applications, some medical examinations and travel vaccinations are not covered by the NHS and the practice will charge a fee for the provision of these services in line with the recommended BMA rates. For more information on services and fees payable, please see the notice in the waiting room or ask at reception.
